Koala AI vs BrandWell mostly comes down to how much AI answer tracking you want inside the same tool you write with. BrandWell (formerly Content at Scale) tracks answers on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity in every plan from $249 a month. Koala starts at $25 a month, checks Google AI Overviews on demand, and leads on scheduled autopublishing. DeepSmith is the stronger alternative on terms: a stated metric set, up to ten named engines, and tracking and writing on one published plan.
If you are weighing Koala AI or BrandWell as a content tool that should also tell you how AI engines talk about your brand, the real difference is the tracking. BrandWell includes it in every plan. Koala only checks Google AI Overviews, and only when you ask. The rest of the choice is price, metering and how much of the publishing runs on its own. DeepSmith sits next to both as a platform that tracks AI answers and produces the content to close the gaps.
Koala vs BrandWell: the short answer
- Choose DeepSmith if you want AI answer tracking with named metrics (mention rate, citation rate, share of voice, sentiment) and the writing that acts on it, on a plan with a published price and a 7-day free trial.
- Choose Koala if you mostly need SEO articles planned from Search Console and published on a schedule, at an entry price of $25 a month, and a Google AI Overviews check is enough.
- Choose BrandWell if you want AI answer history on four engines bundled with your content plan from the first tier, and you can work with $249 a month as the starting point.

Koala

Koala is a self-serve AI SEO platform from F5 Media. KoalaWriter generates long-form articles grounded in a per-brand knowledge base, and an SEO agent reads Search Console and Analytics to plan what to write. Articles can then go straight to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or Ghost, with internal links placed along the way. It is built for bloggers, affiliate and niche publishers, local businesses and agencies that want high article volume at a public price.
The standout is the price and the breadth for it. Nine public tiers run from $25 to $2,000 a month, there is a no-card free account, and the API and a 62-tool MCP server come with every paid plan. The real limitation for this comparison is the AI tracking. Koala checks whether Google AI Overviews cite your domain for a keyword and compares competitor citations, but those are on-demand calls with no recurring sampling and no answer history. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude show up in its marketing as things to optimize for, not engines it measures.
Reviewers like the speed of drafts and the SEO structure. Capterra shows 4.5/5 from 70 reviews, checked in September 2026. G2 shows 4.5/5 from 2 reviews. Trustpilot is lower, at a 3/5 TrustScore from 22 reviews, with complaints about slow support, credit expiry and refunds. Several reviewers also say the drafts need editing and fact-checking. If those limits matter, a longer list of Koala alternatives is a good next read.
BrandWell

BrandWell is the 2024 rebrand of Content at Scale, now a growth automation platform with separate products for buyer-intent data, visitor identification and outreach. The content product is RankWell, which researches, writes, optimizes and publishes SEO articles. Visibility, the AI answer tracker, is included in every RankWell plan and is not sold separately. It is built for content and SEO teams and agencies that want drafting, scoring and tracking in one workspace.
The standout is that tracking. Visibility runs tracked buyer questions on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, saves the answer, the citations and the check time, and lets you compare checks over time. The real limitation is how much is left unsaid. BrandWell does not state check quotas, how often checks run, or whether answers come from official APIs or consumer interfaces. Its own pages also disagree on plans and trial terms: the pricing page shows RankWell at $249, $499 and $999 a month, while a registration page still shows 12-month commitment plans.
The review base is small and mostly old. The legacy Content at Scale listing on Capterra shows 4.0/5 from 5 reviews, mostly from 2023. TrustRadius shows 9.1/10 from 2 reviews. Older reviewers mention useful long-form drafts and also outdated facts and editing time. A longer list of Content at Scale alternatives covers the other options buyers weigh. Those ratings were checked in September 2026, and they are too few to say much about the 2026 product. Anyone searching Koala AI vs Content at Scale is looking at the same BrandWell product under its older name.
DeepSmith: the alternative that tracks on stated terms and writes on a published plan

Both tools track AI answers in some form, so the useful question for DeepSmith is on what terms. Koala's check is narrow, and BrandWell's is broad but leaves its method and quotas undisclosed. DeepSmith publishes the metrics it reports, the engines it covers on each plan, and the price, and it keeps tracking and production in one place.
DeepSmith reports four metrics: mention rate (how often AI names your brand), citation rate (how often AI links to your pages), share of voice (your visibility relative to competitors) and sentiment (whether AI describes you positively, neutrally or negatively). It covers ten engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Grok, Meta AI, Microsoft Copilot and DeepSeek. Coverage rises by plan, with ChatGPT on Pro, Perplexity added on Grow, Gemini added on Scale, and all ten on Enterprise. You define the prompts, the platform checks them on a schedule, and every answer is kept so you can read it in full.
The tracking then feeds the writing. Content Map compares your site with competitor sites topic by topic and flags coverage gaps and untapped topics. Opportunity Agents turn that and your visibility data into content ideas, each with the data point that justifies it. The Writer produces a finished, brand-grounded article from Deep IQ, which keeps your brand voice and product facts in one place so you do not have to ground AI content again for every piece. Autowrite can write it on a scheduled date and land it in Produced Content, or take it all the way to published. Output is publish-ready, with internal links, a cover image and metadata included.

Plans are published: Pro is $99 a month ($80 billed annually) with 20 articles and 50 tracked prompts, Grow is $199 ($160) with 40 articles and 100 prompts, and Scale is $399 ($299) with 90 articles and 200 prompts. There is a 7-day free trial and no long-term contract. We cover the full pairing in our DeepSmith vs Koala comparison. The DeepSmith vs Content at Scale page does the same for BrandWell.
Koala vs BrandWell AI tracking coverage
BrandWell wins on coverage. It tracks four engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity) on every RankWell plan, while Koala measures one surface, Google AI Overviews, and only through on-demand checks.
For a team that wants to know how ChatGPT or Perplexity describes the brand, Koala has no answer today. Its agent can recommend FAQ blocks and schema changes aimed at those engines, but it does not measure what they say. If Google AI Overviews is the only surface that matters to you, Koala's check is enough, and there are other Google AI Overviews tracking tools if you want a dedicated one.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith tracks ten named engines, including Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode alongside ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. Which engines you get depends on the plan, up to all ten on Enterprise, so the coverage is a published choice and not a quote. Share of voice across those engines is one of its four metrics, and there is a guide on how to calculate share of voice if you want to see the arithmetic.
Tracking depth and data method
BrandWell has the deeper history, and in a BrandWell vs Koala AI comparison on depth it is the clearer pick. Visibility saves each tracked answer with its citations and the time of the check, so you can compare before and after a content change. It also keeps a separate historical citation research view of indexed mentions and competitor share of voice.
Koala's checks run against live Google results at the moment you call them. There is no recurring schedule and no history, so you can see where you stand today but not how that moved. The caveat on BrandWell's side is that check quotas, frequency, locations and retention are not stated, and AI answers vary from one check to the next, so a single reading says little. The more reliable approach with either tool is to track the same questions over several months and look at the direction.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith states the metrics up front, which makes the numbers easier to compare month to month, and shows mention rate and citation rate per prompt and per engine with the answer history behind them. Its Pages view shows which of your pages AI actually cites, so you can see what is working. Sentiment is reported alongside the rates, and there is a guide on how to track sentiment in AI mentions. How to measure citation rate is covered in a separate guide.
Scheduled publishing and automation
Koala wins here. Its Content Calendar Autopilot plans a batch of articles, writes them and publishes them to your connected CMS on the dates you set, from the Boost plan at $99 a month. Bulk writing from a keyword list is available on every paid plan.
BrandWell is more cautious. It has an editorial calendar and AIMEE routines that run on schedules, but it says generation creates editable work and that publishing needs an approved delivery path, with approval points built into its templates. That suits teams that want a person to sign off every piece. It is less suited to a hands-off cadence. Its publishing destinations are WordPress, Contentful and Google Docs.
What DeepSmith does: Autowrite handles the same job on a published plan. You set a date at planning time, the article writes itself using the stored persona, voice, content type and link targets, and it lands in Produced Content for review or goes out to WordPress, Webflow, Strapi, Sanity or Contentful. There are also AI content tools with CMS auto-publish if you want to widen the comparison.
Pricing and value
Koala wins on entry price and on how plainly it is published. Starter is $25 a month for 45,000 words and 500 credits, and the top tier is $2,000 a month. The cost is in the metering. Articles draw on a word allowance that premium models consume at two or three times the rate, and chat, images, links and agent work share a credit pool that expires monthly. Several features you may want sit above Starter: the SEO scoring editor and Deep Research start at Professional ($49), and the uncapped agent and Autopilot start at Boost ($99).
BrandWell charges $249, $499 and $999 a month for 25, 50 and 100 articles. Visibility is included at all three, so if tracking is a requirement, the bundle is the point. Programmatic SEO and Link Builder start at Growth. Annual prices are not published for either tool, and BrandWell's own pages disagree on trial terms: a 3-day satisfaction guarantee on one, a 7-day no-card trial on another.
If the work is mostly articles, Koala costs much less to start. If tracking on four engines is part of the job, BrandWell's $249 includes it, while Koala does not offer that tracking at any tier.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith publishes four plans with a monthly and an annual price, the articles and tracked prompts each includes, and a 7-day free trial. Tracking, Content Map, Opportunity Agents and production all sit inside the same plan, so there is no second tool to add.
From insight to action
BrandWell is a little ahead on turning AI answers into work. Its content plan ranks what to create, optimize or merge using search performance, keyword demand and AI citations, and its AIMEE templates include ones named Publish the answer and Close a visibility gap. Each has named approval points.
Koala plans from Search Console and keyword data, and its agent has an AI Search Focus mode that audits Google AI Overview citations and recommends rewrites. That is useful guidance, though the vendor documents it as structural advice and not a measured citation result. Koala is stronger when the starting point is Search Console and keyword data. BrandWell is stronger when the starting point is what AI engines said.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith starts from both. Opportunity Agents read your AI visibility data and your Content Map, then return ideas with the evidence attached, for example how to get cited for a tracked prompt or take a competitor's citations. Those ideas move into Planned Content, the Writer produces the article, and the next round of tracking shows whether it was cited. DeepSmith's API and MCP server are read-only, so they report on the workspace and do not create content.
Which should you choose
