Scalenut is the more direct fit for a team that lives on keyword research, SERP scoring and published prices, while Writer suits large organizations that care more about governance and company knowledge than native SEO tools. DeepSmith is a strong alternative to both because it tracks AI answers and then writes and publishes the articles on their scheduled dates, hands-off, grounded in Deep IQ.

Writer AI vs Scalenut comes down to where your content process starts. If it starts with a keyword and a search results page, Scalenut was built for that. If it starts with company knowledge, brand rules and IT sign-off, Writer was. DeepSmith sits next to both for teams that also want AI answer tracking and finished articles that go out on a schedule without anyone opening the app.

Writer vs Scalenut: the short answer

  • Choose DeepSmith if you want AI answer tracking and publish-ready production on one self-serve plan from $99 a month, with Autowrite writing and publishing articles on their scheduled dates.
  • Choose Scalenut if your team is small to mid-sized, writes English SEO content, and wants keyword clusters, a content score and a public price starting at $59 a month.
  • Choose Writer if you are a large organization that needs governed AI workflows grounded in company knowledge, and you are fine talking to sales about price.

Writer

Writer homepage showing its enterprise AI platform pitch for marketing and revenue teams.

Writer is an enterprise AI platform built around WRITER Agent, Playbooks, a Knowledge Graph and its own Palmyra models. It was founded in 2020 and is based in San Francisco. There is a roundup of Writer alternatives for readers building a wider shortlist. The pitch is delegating multi-step work, content included, to an agent that works from your company's knowledge and brand rules under IT governance.

The standout is governance and grounding. It holds SOC 2 Type II and several ISO certifications, and voice profiles link to style guides and banned terms that apply across its agent, Chrome, Word and Figma surfaces. Reviewers on G2 keep praising the brand consistency.

The real limitation for an SEO-led team is the SEO side. Writer has no keyword database of its own, and keyword data comes through a Semrush connector. The records don't document SERP analysis or SERP-based content scoring. Pricing is also mostly hidden. The plans page shows Starter, a 14-day trial for up to 5 users, with no price, and Enterprise is quote-only and credit-metered.

Reviews are mixed across platforms. Writer has 4.4/5 on G2 from 130 reviews and 4.5/5 on Capterra from 8 reviews, checked in September 2026. TrustRadius is lower at 5.7/10. Complaints mention generic output that needs editing and a learning curve.

Scalenut

Scalenut started as an AI SEO writer in 2020 and now calls itself a GEO platform. It is based in Gurugram, India, and is aimed at small and mid-size content teams, founders and agencies that write English content. There is a matching roundup of Scalenut alternatives for the same purpose. A managed VIP Service sits on top for brands that want the work done for them.

The standout is breadth for the price. Starter is $59 a month, Plus is $89 and Professional is $199. Those plans cover SERP-based keyword clusters, the Cruise Mode article writer, a content optimizer with a live score, content audits, internal linking, WordPress and Shopify publishing, and weekly AI visibility tracking. Scalenut says it tracks ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews on every self-serve plan, with Perplexity on Professional.

The real limitations are narrower. There is no public API, the self-serve product is documented as English only, and no security certifications are published. Starter is also thin: the plan grid shows no internal linking, content audit or CMS publishing on it.

Reviews are strong on the main B2B sites. Scalenut has 4.7/5 on G2 from 315 reviews and 4.8/5 on Capterra from 397 reviews. Trustpilot is mixed at 3.2/5 from 159 reviews, where some customers describe renewal and refund problems. Those are reviewer accounts, and they haven't been independently confirmed. Reviewers also say drafts can come out repetitive and need editing.

DeepSmith: the alternative that writes and publishes at scale

Both Writer and Scalenut can help produce an article. Scalenut gives you the research and the scoring around a draft, and Writer gives you a governed agent that can build the workflow. Neither one is documented as writing and publishing articles on their scheduled dates without someone starting each run, and Scalenut's records describe no bulk generation at all. For a team that wants a calendar to turn into published pages, that is the gap.

DeepSmith is an AI search analytics and content production platform in one. Autowrite closes that gap. You give an idea a planned date, set up the article once, and it writes itself on that date and lands in Produced Content, with no one in the app. You can also generate many articles in one run. The output is publish-ready, with internal and external links, a cover image and metadata built in, and you can publish straight to WordPress, Webflow, Strapi, Sanity or Contentful.

What the article is written from matters as much as when. Deep IQ stores your product facts, personas, brand voice, visual guidelines and content types once, and every article draws on them. That means no re-briefing for each piece and no product claims the writer invented.

The tracking side is part of the same platform. DeepSmith checks the prompts you define on a schedule and reports mention rate, citation rate and share of voice, with a competitor leaderboard and the pages AI actually cites. Engine coverage rises by plan. Pro tracks ChatGPT, Grow adds Perplexity, Scale adds Gemini, and Enterprise covers all ten engines. Opportunity Agents then turn those gaps into ideas that each carry the data point behind them, and those ideas flow into Planned Content.

Plans are Pro at $99 a month with 20 articles, Grow at $199 with 40, and Scale at $399 with 90, or $80, $160 and $299 a month billed annually. Enterprise is custom. There is a 7-day free trial, no long-term contracts, and DeepSmith is rated 4.8/5 on G2.

Keyword research and SEO tooling

Scalenut wins this one clearly. Its Keyword Planner returns volume, CPC and difficulty, its Cruise Mode shows the top 10, 20 and 30 competitor outlines, and its optimizer scores a draft in real time on key terms, headings and content depth. Topic gaps and auto-optimization arrive on Plus and above.

Writer is a different kind of tool here. Keyword data comes through its Semrush connector, which needs a Semrush account, and the fact sheet marks topic clusters and competitor topic gaps as partial because you build them yourself as agent work. It does have a prebuilt SEO content refresh agent and a meta title agent, so it isn't empty. For Writer vs Scalenut for SEO content, though, Scalenut has the native toolset. If SERP scoring is the main draw, we also compared Scalenut against Surfer. That page goes through the SERP scoring in more detail.

What DeepSmith does: Content Map crawls your site and your competitors' sites onto one topic taxonomy, so coverage gaps and untapped topics are measured instead of guessed. DeepSmith doesn't grade a draft against top-ranking pages the way Scalenut does. Its writing pipeline builds keyword coverage, heading structure, schema, internal links and metadata in during creation, and Opportunity Agents return ideas with the evidence attached.

Pricing and value

In Scalenut vs Writer AI on price, Scalenut wins on pricing you can read. Starter is $59 a month with 5 GEO articles, Plus is $89 with 30, and Professional is $199 with 75, all on monthly billing. Annual billing shows a limited offer of $24, $36 and $80 a month, with doubled limits, and it's worth asking how long that offer runs before you budget around it. A 7-day trial covers the monthly plans.

Writer's pricing is mostly not public. Starter has no listed seat price and no credit amount, and Enterprise credits are set by contract, where 1 credit equals 1 USD. One third-party article reported a Starter seat price, but Writer's own page doesn't confirm it, so it can't go in a budget. For a team that needs a number before a sales call, that is a real cost in itself.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith publishes every plan price. Pro is $99 a month with 20 articles and 50 tracked prompts, and the same plan covers tracking and writing, so you aren't buying a second tool for AI visibility. A 7-day free trial shows real data and real drafts first.

AI answer tracking

Scalenut wins between the two. Its AI Visibility tracks mentions, prompt coverage, competitor share and citations, with 10, 25 or 100 prompts by plan and a weekly refresh. The coverage is narrow on standard plans: ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, with Perplexity only on Professional. Scalenut doesn't publish how the answers are collected.

Writer has no dedicated tracker. Its marketing page describes scheduled visibility monitoring across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity as something you can build with agents and playbooks. The collection method, prompt counts and plan gating aren't documented, so I'd treat it as a project to build, not a feature to buy.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith tracks the questions your buyers ask on a schedule and keeps the full answer history. Its Pages view shows which of your own pages AI cites and which prompts drive those citations. The same data feeds Opportunity Agents, so a gap in the tracking turns into an article idea instead of a note in a report.

Brand knowledge and governance

Writer wins this axis. Its Knowledge Graph does graph-based retrieval over company files with source citations, Enterprise Brain holds company standards, and voice profiles link to style guides and banned terms. Security is deep too, with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, 27701 and 42001, SAML SSO and audit logs on Enterprise. Some of the best features are Enterprise-only, since the Starter tier has a limited Knowledge Graph and no SSO or audit logs.

Scalenut's Brand Kit stores tone, readability, preferred and negative keywords and competitors, and the AI uses them as context. It has no document knowledge base. No security certifications are published, which can matter in a procurement review.

What DeepSmith does: Deep IQ holds About Company, Products and Services, Buyer Persona, Brand Voice, Visual Guidelines and Content Types, and each article is written against them. DeepSmith is SOC 2, GDPR and ISO certified, and it starts self-serve in minutes from your website, with no enterprise sale first.

From insight to action

Writer is ahead on turning work into a workflow. Playbooks can run on a schedule or an event, with step approvals and CMS connectors for Webflow, Adobe Experience Manager and Contentful. It isn't described as a turnkey write-and-publish feature, though, and there is no WordPress publishing connector. Scalenut publishes to WordPress and Shopify on Plus and above, and its AI Link Manager and OnPage Pro deploy approved fixes to your site. It doesn't write on a schedule without a person starting each draft.

So on the question of which one gets a calendar to published pages with the least hands, neither is documented to do it end to end. Writer is the closer of the two because you can compose it.

What DeepSmith does: Autowrite writes and publishes articles on their scheduled dates and can generate many in one run. Produced Content lets you review, edit and publish, and Repurpose and the Apps Library turn each finished article into LinkedIn, X, newsletter and other channel versions. The API and MCP server are read-only, so they let your own tools and assistants read the workspace data, and webhooks notify your systems when content status changes.

Which should you choose

  • DeepSmith fits content and marketing teams, and agencies, that treat content as a growth channel and want to see where they show up in AI answers, find the gaps and have publish-ready articles go out on a calendar.
  • Scalenut fits a small team or an agency writing English SEO content that wants keyword clusters, scoring and internal linking at a published price, with basic AI tracking included.
  • Writer fits a large organization where marketing is one of several teams using governed agents, and where the buying process already includes sales and security review.

If you are stuck on Writer AI or Scalenut, the useful question is which constraint is tighter, budget and SEO tooling or governance and IT review. Our DeepSmith vs Scalenut page compares that tool with DeepSmith directly. The DeepSmith vs Writer page does the same for Writer. Read whichever matches the constraint you named.

Frequently asked questions

Is Scalenut or Writer AI better for SEO?

For native SEO tools, Scalenut. It has keyword clustering, SERP outlines, a live content score, content audits and internal linking, while Writer relies on a Semrush connector for keyword data and doesn't document SERP-based scoring. Writer is the better pick when governance and company knowledge matter more than the SEO toolset.

Does Writer publish prices?

Mostly no. Starter has a 14-day trial with no listed price, and Enterprise is quote-only and credit-metered. Scalenut lists $59, $89 and $199 a month on its pricing page.

Can Scalenut or Writer track AI search visibility?

Scalenut can, on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews for every self-serve plan, with Perplexity on Professional. Writer describes monitoring as a use case you build with agents and playbooks, not a dedicated tracker.

Is there an alternative to Writer and Scalenut that writes and publishes on a schedule?

Yes. DeepSmith's Autowrite writes and publishes articles on their scheduled dates, grounded in Deep IQ, and can generate many in one run. It also tracks AI answers on the same plan, with engine coverage that rises by tier.
