Clearscope vs NeuronWriter: Is Content Decay Monitoring Worth the Higher Price?

Two document cards side by side on a charcoal background, one with a declining decay curve and one with a flat line, joined by node lines, a price tag and a magnifying glass, under the words Clearscope vs NeuronWriter.

Clearscope and NeuronWriter are both editors that grade a draft against the top search results, and Clearscope adds monitoring of published pages for decay at a much higher price. NeuronWriter starts at $23 a month and puts its API and MCP server at the $69 Gold tier, so it suits teams that watch cost. DeepSmith is the stronger alternative when you want publish-ready articles written on a schedule, with tracking and production on one plan.

Clearscope vs NeuronWriter comes down to one question for most buyers: do you need a tool that watches your published pages for decay, or do you mainly need a good editor at a low price? Clearscope starts at $129 a month and includes that monitoring. NeuronWriter starts at $23 a month and only partly covers it. Both also track brand mentions in AI answers, so the AI search side is closer than the prices suggest. DeepSmith is a third option for teams who want the writing itself handled, and I cover it after the two vendor sections.

Clearscope vs NeuronWriter: the short answer

  • Choose DeepSmith if you want finished articles written in your brand voice on a schedule, with AI visibility tracking and publishing in the same platform, starting at $99 a month with a 7-day free trial.
  • Choose Clearscope if you already write and refresh articles yourselves, you want Content Inventory to flag decaying pages, and you can carry $129 a month for unlimited users.
  • Choose NeuronWriter if price is the main limit, you want unlimited team members, an API and an MCP server from $69 a month, and you can live without automatic decay detection.

Clearscope in brief

The Clearscope homepage headline reads "Get discovered on Google, ChatGPT, and what's next" above a Start for free button and a customer quote about answer engine optimization.

Clearscope is a long-running SEO content optimization platform from Mushi Labs LLC in Austin, Texas. Its center is the Content Grade, which scores a draft on how well it uses terms taken from the top-ranking pages for a query, and updates as you type. Around that editor it offers Topic Exploration for research, Draft with AI for guided drafting, internal link suggestions, and Content Inventory, which watches published pages through Google Search Console.

It is built for content and SEO teams that write and refresh articles themselves, from small publishers to agencies, and it works inside Google Docs and WordPress. Every plan has unlimited users and unlimited projects. Essentials is $129 a month and Business is $399, and Enterprise is custom.

The standout is the monitoring. Content Inventory shows content health grades, decay and striking distance views, and alerts for 404s and indexing problems. The real limit is how much each plan includes. Essentials covers 20 Drafts, 20 Topic Explorations, 50 inventory pages and 50 tracked queries, and Business raises the page and query counts but still lists 20 Drafts. Reviewers also note the lack of a public API, MCP server, scheduled publishing and published security attestations.

On reviews, Clearscope holds 4.9/5 on G2 from 92 reviews and 4.9/5 on Capterra from 60, checked in September 2026. People praise the ease of use and the support, and the usual complaint is price.

NeuronWriter in brief

The NeuronWriter homepage headline reads "Rank on Google. Get cited by AI." above a free 7-day trial button and a row of review ratings.

NeuronWriter is a SERP-based content optimization editor from the Polish company Conti sp. z o.o. It analyzes the Google results for a keyword and turns them into term, entity, heading and length recommendations with a live content score. On top of that it has AI drafting through Content Designer and templates, the Neuro assistant inside the editor, plagiarism checks, internal link suggestions, schema generation and an AI Visibility module.

It is built for freelancers, small businesses and small to mid-sized agencies that want term-based optimization at a low published price. There are five plans from Bronze at $23 a month to Diamond at $117, or $19 to $97 billed yearly. From Gold at $69, you get unlimited team members, WordPress export, Search Console, the Neuron API and an MCP server.

The standout is how much sits at a low price. The real limit is that the entry tiers are heavily gated, since Bronze and Silver offer read-only sharing and standard templates only. Automatic detection of decaying content is not documented, and the AI visibility allowance is 5 to 20 questions unless you buy the Advanced add-on.

Reviewers rate it 4.4/5 on G2 from 31 reviews. On Trustpilot it holds 4.5/5 from 68. They like the term guidance and the value, and they say the AI drafts can be generic and need editing.

DeepSmith: the alternative that writes and publishes on a schedule

The DeepSmith homepage headline reads "One platform for AI search analytics and content production" above a dashboard showing mention rate, citation rate and share of voice.

Both tools help a person write better, and neither one writes the article for you on a schedule. Clearscope generates drafts one at a time against a monthly Draft allowance and sets tone per draft from a writing sample. NeuronWriter can produce a one-click article from Gold up, and its reviewers say the output needs revision. Neither record documents scheduled writing or publishing, which leaves the briefing, the checking and the publishing with your team.

DeepSmith is an AI search analytics and content production platform in one. Deep IQ stores your company, products, personas, brand voice and content types once, and the Writer uses that context on every article, so you are not re-briefing a freelancer or rescuing a first draft. The Writer researches each article, adds internal and external links, a cover image and publish-ready metadata, and the output is a finished article. Autowrite takes a planned idea and writes it on its scheduled date with nobody in the app. From Produced Content you review and publish straight to WordPress, Webflow, Strapi, Sanity or Contentful, or let it go through hands-off.

DeepSmith's Planned Content screen with an Autowrite panel that schedules an article to write itself on a set date using a stored persona, voice, content type and link targets, with the finished draft landing in Produced Content for review (demo data).

The ideas come from data. AI Visibility tracks which prompts name and cite you, Content Map shows where competitors cover topics you do not, and Opportunity Agents turn both into ideas that carry their evidence. DeepSmith doesn't grade drafts term by term against the top results the way both editors do. It builds keyword coverage, headings, schema and internal links into the draft as it writes.

DeepSmith's AI Visibility overview with separate mention rate, citation rate and share of voice figures, a per-engine breakdown and a competitor leaderboard ranking the tracked brands (demo data, not a customer result).

Pricing is published. Pro is $99 a month for 20 articles and 50 tracked prompts, Grow is $199 for 40 articles and 100 prompts, and Scale is $399 for 90 articles and 200 prompts, with annual billing at $80, $160 and $299. For the $399 that buys Clearscope Business, Scale gives you 90 publish-ready articles plus tracking. There is a 7-day free trial and no long-term contract. DeepSmith is rated 4.8/5 on G2. The DeepSmith vs Clearscope page sets it against the first tool in this comparison. The DeepSmith vs NeuronWriter page does the same for the second.

Pricing and value

NeuronWriter wins on price, and by a wide margin. Its entry plan is $23 a month against Clearscope's $129, which is more than five times as much. The fairer comparison is the plan with the features a team needs. NeuronWriter Gold is $69 a month, or $57 billed yearly, with unlimited team members, WordPress export, Search Console, the API and the MCP server. The gap to Clearscope Essentials is then $60 a month.

If you are doing a Clearscope vs NeuronWriter price vs features check, the units matter more than the headline. Clearscope's $129 gets 20 Drafts, 20 Topic Explorations, 50 inventory pages and 50 tracked queries, with unlimited users. NeuronWriter's Gold gets 75 content writer analyses, 45,000 AI credits and 75 plagiarism checks. A Clearscope Business plan at $399 raises pages to 300 and queries to 300 but keeps 20 Drafts. Clearscope also sells add-ons, such as extra inventory pages at $25 a month per 100 on Essentials. Clearscope doesn't show an annual price on its pricing page, while NeuronWriter does.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith prices by output, so the cost of a month is easy to predict. Pro is $99 for 20 articles with five seats, and the same plan includes AI visibility tracking alongside the articles.

Content decay monitoring and refresh

Clearscope wins this one. Content Inventory is built for it: you connect a verified Search Console property, import pages, and see a content grade, clicks, average position and SEO value for each, with decay and striking distance views and alerts for 404s and indexing issues. On Essentials the inventory holds 50 pages, and more cost extra.

NeuronWriter handles refresh in a lighter way. You can import existing content from WordPress, a URL or HTML and re-score it, and Search Console on Gold and up shows clicks, impressions, positions and cannibalization. What its record doesn't show is automatic detection of decaying content, so someone has to notice which pages slipped and bring them in. For a small site you can do that by hand, and for a site with hundreds of pages it gets tedious.

So the answer to the title depends on your library. With a few dozen pages, the monitoring probably isn't worth $60 to $106 more each month. With a few hundred pages and a steady refresh program, it likely is, because the alerts replace a manual audit.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith approaches freshness from the visibility side. AI Visibility reports which of your pages AI engines actually cite, and Opportunity Agents turn gaps into ideas with the evidence attached, which the Writer then produces as new or replacement pages.

Optimization editor and drafting

This is close to a tie, with a different edge for each. Clearscope's Content Grade and its term importance scores from 1 to 10 are what reviewers praise, along with an editor that is easy to learn. NeuronWriter's editor covers the same ground, with NLP terms, entities, a content score and an AI Score, and then adds more to write with: templates, Neuro, Fact Extraction, image generation and a plagiarism checker from Gold.

On AI drafting, NeuronWriter does more at a lower price. AI Profile can build a project profile with products, personas and brand voice from your website, and Gold and above can use their own OpenAI or Anthropic key. Clearscope's drafting is guided and one piece at a time, and it describes no stored company knowledge. For the editor itself, the review scores lean toward Clearscope, at 4.9/5 on G2 against 4.4/5, though the NeuronWriter sample is smaller.

AI visibility tracking and AEO

Clearscope tracks more by default, and NeuronWriter does more to optimize for it. Clearscope's Query Tracking reports mention percentage per query against up to five competitor domains, with a 21-response rolling average and a 90-day trend. The allowance is 50 queries on Essentials and 300 on Business. According to its pricing page it covers ChatGPT and Gemini, and its product pages add Claude, so plan-level coverage isn't fully clear.

NeuronWriter's AI Visibility module covers share of voice, citations, sentiment and competitors, with rechecks usually every 24 to 48 hours. Each plan includes 5 to 20 questions across Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and the Advanced add-on, from $9 a month at 10 questions, adds ChatGPT and Perplexity. Its optimization side includes an AI Score, an AI Readiness audit and suggestions in the editor, which goes further than the term presence signals Clearscope shows in its editor. NeuronWriter calls its outcomes claims, as does Clearscope, and neither has published proof that using them gets you cited.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith tracks the questions you choose across ChatGPT on Pro, adds Perplexity on Grow and Gemini on Scale, and covers all ten engines on Enterprise. It reports mention rate, citation rate and share of voice, shows which of your pages are cited, and ranks the competitors winning the citations.

Team access, API and integrations

NeuronWriter wins on developer access, and Clearscope wins on seats at the entry level. Clearscope gives unlimited users on every plan, with three roles, shareable Draft links, a Google Docs add-on, a WordPress plugin and Search Console and Analytics connections. It lists no public API or MCP server.

NeuronWriter limits Bronze and Silver to read-only sharing. From Gold it gives unlimited team members with create, edit and read access, the Neuron API for creating analyses in bulk, and a remote MCP server with 11 tools. Its integrations are narrower, covering WordPress, Search Console, a Chrome extension, Zapier and Boost.space, and neither vendor documents SOC 2.

From insight to action

Neither tool takes you from an insight to a published page without your team, and on that axis they are even. Both tell you what to put in an article and where a page stands. Clearscope hands you a graded draft, and NeuronWriter can export to WordPress from Gold. Writing the brief, finishing the draft, linking it and scheduling it remain with a person, and neither documents scheduled publishing.

What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith runs the whole loop. AI Visibility and Content Map find the gap, an Opportunity Agent turns it into an idea with its evidence, the Writer produces the article in your brand voice, and Autowrite or a manual publish puts it live. A short batch of planned ideas can write themselves on set dates, so output keeps moving in a busy week.

Which should you choose

  • DeepSmith: you run content for a brand or several clients and want finished, on-brand articles in volume, scheduled in advance, with the AI visibility data that decides what to write next, all on a published plan from $99 a month.
  • Clearscope: you have a large existing library that needs watching, your writers are experienced, and you value the editor's usability and unlimited users over the price.
  • NeuronWriter: you are a freelancer, small business or small agency that wants term-based optimization, drafting aids, the API and MCP at the lowest published price, and you will check for decaying pages yourself.

In a NeuronWriter vs Clearscope decision made on cost alone, NeuronWriter wins. Made on monitoring alone, Clearscope does.

Frequently asked questions

Is Clearscope worth the higher price over NeuronWriter?

It is worth it when you have a big library of published pages and want automatic decay alerts, since Content Inventory does that and NeuronWriter's record doesn't show it. For a small site or a team that mostly writes new articles, NeuronWriter covers the editor features for far less. Clearscope also has no hidden seat cost, because every plan includes unlimited users.

Which has better AI visibility tracking, Clearscope or NeuronWriter?

Clearscope tracks more queries by default, at 50 on Essentials, across ChatGPT and Gemini. NeuronWriter includes 5 to 20 questions on Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, with ChatGPT and Perplexity in the paid Advanced add-on. NeuronWriter has more optimization tools for AI answers.

Can NeuronWriter replace Clearscope for an agency?

In a NeuronWriter vs Clearscope choice for an agency, NeuronWriter can do the job for many. Gold gives unlimited team members, projects per plan, the API and an MCP server for $69 a month. What you give up is automatic decay monitoring and Clearscope's higher review ratings for ease of use, and NeuronWriter's integrations are narrower.

Is there an alternative to Clearscope and NeuronWriter that also writes the articles?

DeepSmith does. It tracks AI visibility, finds the content gaps, writes publish-ready articles grounded in your Deep IQ brand context, and can write and deliver them on a schedule through Autowrite. Plans start at $99 a month with a 7-day free trial.
