Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit and SE Ranking AI Visibility split on what they measure beyond mentions. Semrush reports sentiment in AI answers in full, while SE Ranking tracks ads in AI answers and stores answer text, and keeps sentiment in a separate product. DeepSmith is a strong alternative if you want to change how AI describes you: it tracks sentiment next to mention and citation rates, and its Opportunity Agents feed a Writer that produces publish-ready articles.
If you are weighing the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit vs SE Ranking AI Visibility, the decision mostly depends on what you want to learn beyond whether AI mentions you. Both name the same five engines and both sit inside a larger SEO suite. Semrush leans toward how AI describes your brand. SE Ranking leans toward what surrounds the answer, including paid placements, and it keeps the answer text. DeepSmith is the third option on this page, because it tracks sentiment and also writes the content that changes it. Below, the two are compared on sentiment, ads, history, engines, price and access, with a verdict on each.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is a module inside the Semrush platform, launched in March 2025 as the AI Toolkit. You can buy it alone at $99 a month, or inside the Semrush One bundles at $199, $299 or $549 a month. It is built for SEO teams, agencies and mid-market companies that already live in Semrush, and Semrush has been owned by Adobe since April 2026.
The standout is the research side. Visibility Overview, Competitor Research and Prompt Research run on a database Semrush reports at 317M+ prompts, so you can benchmark any domain before you set up any tracking. Brand Performance adds share of voice and sentiment, and Prompt Tracking runs your chosen prompts daily.
The limits show up in the allowances. The standalone plan covers 25 tracked prompts and one Brand Performance domain, an extra 50 prompts cost $60 a month, and every extra user needs their own $99 license. The toolkit does not write content, and it has no documented AI visibility API. Ratings for Semrush overall are 4.4/5 on G2 from 4,046 reviews, and reviewers of the suite often mention cost and add-ons. None of those ratings are for the toolkit by itself.
SE Ranking AI Visibility

SE Ranking is an SEO platform founded in 2013, and its AI tracking comes in three forms. It is included in the Core suite plan at $129 a month (100 daily prompts) and the Growth plan at $279 a month (250 daily prompts). It is also sold as an AI Search add-on from $89 to $345 a month, and as the standalone SE Visible from $99 a month. It suits SEO teams and agencies that want AI tracking next to rank tracking and audits.
The standout is breadth of access. The tracker captures answers from five engines through the browser interface every day, it reports mentions, links, positions, cited sources and competitors, and an API and a hosted MCP server come with every plan. It also tracks ads in ChatGPT and AI Mode answers.
The real limits are in packaging and gaps. Sentiment lives in SE Visible rather than the main tracker, Claude and Copilot are not tracked, and no SSO or SOC 2 is published. The add-on's units are called prompts on the pricing page and checks in the help center, which makes the numbers hard to compare. The suite is rated 4.7/5 on G2 from 1,606 reviews, and AI-specific reviewers ask for more flexible ways to organize prompts and sources.
DeepSmith: the alternative that tracks sentiment and writes the fix

Neither suite module changes what AI says about you. Semrush measures sentiment and recommends actions, and its toolkit does not write content. SE Ranking's AI Writer sits in the wider suite, separate from the AI tracking product, and no stored brand context for it is described. So the gap for a reader who wants to change the description is the step after the measurement.
DeepSmith tracks sentiment alongside mention rate, citation rate and share of voice, across ten engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Grok, Meta AI, Microsoft Copilot and DeepSeek). Coverage rises by plan, from ChatGPT on Pro to all ten on Enterprise. You can read the full answer an engine gave for each tracked prompt, including how your brand was described and which sources it cited.
What happens next is where DeepSmith differs. Opportunity Agents read your visibility data, including an agent that fixes how AI describes you, and return content ideas with the data point that justifies each one. Those ideas move into Content Studio, where the Writer turns a planned idea into a researched, linked, brand-grounded article with a cover image and metadata. The context comes from Deep IQ, which stores your company, persona, voice and product details once. Autowrite can run the whole thing on a schedule, and you can publish to WordPress, Webflow, Strapi, Sanity or Contentful. DeepSmith does not track ads in AI answers, and its tracking centers on the mentions, citations and competitor pages that shape the description.

Pro costs $99 a month ($80 billed annually) with 50 tracked prompts and 20 articles a month. Grow is $199 ($160 annually) with 100 prompts and 40 articles, and Scale is $399 ($299 annually) with 200 prompts and 90 articles. Enterprise is custom. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial and there are no long-term contracts. DeepSmith is rated 4.8/5 on G2.
Sentiment and brand perception
Semrush wins on sentiment. Brand Performance and its Perception report track sentiment and narratives against competitors, refreshed weekly, and Enterprise AIO adds a negative sentiment analysis automation for larger programs. The weekly refresh is slower than the daily prompt tracking, and one Brand Performance domain is included per plan, with extra domains or locations at $99 a month each.
SE Ranking gives you a partial answer. Net Sentiment exists in SE Visible, which comes with the AI Search add-on or sells on its own, but it is not described for the main AI Results Tracker. The SE Visible navigation also still lists AI brand sentiment tracking as coming soon, so check what is live when you buy. Sentiment tells you the tone of a description, and it does not tell you why the answer said it. For that you still need to read the answers and the sources behind them, which is the core of how to audit how AI models describe your brand. If the tone is wrong because the facts are wrong, the steps to fix it when AI describes your brand incorrectly are mostly about content and sources. If sentiment is your main reason to buy, a roundup of AI brand sentiment tools shows what else is on the market.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith reports sentiment, meaning whether AI describes your brand positively, neutrally or negatively, next to mention rate, citation rate and share of voice in the same dashboard. When a description is off, the fix how AI describes you agent turns the problem into article ideas, so the same data that flags the issue also drives the content that addresses it.
Ads in AI answers
In SE Ranking AI Visibility vs Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit on ads, SE Ranking wins, and Semrush does not list the feature at all. The SE Ranking ChatGPT ads tracker and AI Mode ads tracker detect paid placements for your tracked prompts, showing the advertiser, the destination link and how often it appears from month to month. SE Ranking says these need no separate subscription or add-on, though which plans include them is not stated. If paid placement matters to you, that is a real reason to pick SE Ranking.
Semrush's toolkit pages do not mention ads tracking, so the record here is "not listed" rather than "no". If you are trying to work out whether a rival is paying for a spot, the guide on how to tell if a competitor is paying for placement in ChatGPT answers covers what to look for by hand.
Answer history and engine coverage
SE Ranking wins on history, and the two are close on engines. SE Ranking stores cached copies of AI answers, and its API keeps the full answer text for 30 days and presence metrics such as sources and brands for one year. The 30 days is short if you want to reread old wording. Semrush lets you analyze AI responses in Prompt Research, but it does not state whether full answer text is kept over time or for how long. One reviewer on Capterra alleged in June 2026 that exported Brand Performance history changed later, which is a single unverified account.
On engines, both name ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity, and neither tracks Claude or Microsoft Copilot. Semrush splits coverage by report, so Perplexity appears only in Brand Performance and AI Overviews is missing from it. SE Ranking lists all five for its tracker. The collection methods differ too. SE Ranking captures answers through the interface as a user would see them, while Semrush says its research database comes from real requests rather than LLM APIs, and why citations differ depending on how you query is worth knowing before you trust either number.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith keeps full answer history for every tracked prompt, and you can read each answer in full with its sources. It covers ten engines in all, with Perplexity added on Grow, Gemini on Scale and all ten on Enterprise, and it reports the pages AI cites so you can see which of yours are earning citations.
Pricing and value
SE Ranking wins on value at the entry tier, and Semrush has the lower sticker price. Semrush starts at $99 a month for 25 prompts. SE Ranking starts at $129 a month for 100 daily prompts, which is four times the prompts for $30 more, plus the SEO suite around it. Semrush One bundles run $199, $299 and $549 a month with 50, 100 and 200 prompts, so the cost climbs quickly once you add SEO. Semrush has no free trial for the standalone toolkit, while SE Ranking offers 14 days with no card.
The packaging is where both get complicated. Semrush charges per extra prompt block, domain and user. SE Ranking sells three routes with different units, and how the suite's daily prompts combine with add-on checks is not stated. Annual billing brings SE Ranking Core to $103.20 a month, while the standalone Semrush annual rate is not listed. Reviewers of the Semrush suite often say add-ons make it expensive for small teams, so price the version you actually need.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith publishes four plans and counts both halves of the job. Pro at $99 a month includes 50 tracked prompts and 20 articles, and Grow at $199 includes 100 prompts and 40 articles, so tracking and writing sit on one self-serve plan with no contract.
API, MCP and security
The API and MCP verdict goes to SE Ranking, and SSO goes to Semrush. SE Ranking includes a project API, an AI Search data API and a hosted MCP server with 180+ tools on every plan, which suits teams that pipe AI data into their own reports. Semrush's API documents SEO, projects, local and trends data but no AI visibility endpoints, and its MCP covers SEO, traffic and backlink data rather than AI visibility. Semrush does list suite-level SSO, enabled through support, while SE Ranking publishes none. If API access decides it for you, a list of AEO tools with an open API compares more options.
Neither lists a SOC 2 report for the AI product. Semrush cites PCI DSS Level 1 and GDPR. SE Ranking describes EU and US data privacy framework participation. If a security review is on your path, ask each vendor for written proof of certification, because these are company-wide statements and not toolkit-specific ones.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith is SOC 2, GDPR and ISO certified. Its REST API gives read-only access to visibility data, the AI answers themselves, the Content Map and the content library, and its MCP server has 23 read-only tools that work with Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other assistants.
From insight to action
The two tie here, and both stop short of the article. Semrush's Brand Performance adds AI-generated insights and strategic opportunities, and Prompt Tracking offers growth recommendations. SE Ranking's insights and recommendations flag untracked AI Overview keywords and sources that mention competitors but not you. Neither module produces the page that closes the gap. Semrush points to its separate Content Toolkit, and SE Ranking's writing tools live in the suite and are not tied to the AI data.
That leaves the work between a finding and a published page with you, which is the same problem described in how to turn AI visibility gaps into a content production backlog. For a team that has to ship, that handoff is often where the work stalls.
What DeepSmith does: DeepSmith closes that handoff inside one platform. Opportunity Agents return ideas with their evidence, New Ideas holds the backlog, and Planned Content schedules each piece. The Writer then produces a publish-ready article grounded in Deep IQ, and Repurpose adds social posts. That is what lets one team go from a sentiment finding to a live fix without a separate tool.
Which should you choose
Whether you land on the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit or SE Ranking AI Visibility, or on something that also writes, depends on the reader.
- DeepSmith fits marketing and content teams that want to see how AI describes the brand, including sentiment, mentions and citations, and then publish the articles that change it, with tracking and writing on one self-serve plan.
- Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit fits SEO teams already in Semrush who want sentiment and brand perception reports next to Google rankings, and who can work within 25 prompts or step up to a Semrush One bundle.
- SE Ranking AI Visibility fits SEO teams and agencies that want ads in AI answers, stored answers, and an API and MCP server included, and are happy to buy a full SEO suite around the tracker.
