Your pages were showing up inside Google's AI Overviews. Then a model update shipped, and the citation cards stopped naming you. This guide gives a content or marketing lead the exact sequence to recover AI Overview citations after that kind of event: confirm the loss is real, find which pages slipped, rebuild their citation eligibility, and set a cadence that catches the next update early. Take a breath first. This is usually a weeks problem, not a quarters problem.
What a model update actually changes
Google AI Overviews run a filtering pipeline, not a ranking list. Roughly 200 to 500 candidate documents get narrowed down to the 5 to 15 sources that end up in the citation cards.
Four stages, in order:

Freshness carries real weight here.
